Deb learned of my portrait project through her good friend Beth Grossman, and she asked if we would photograph her. She had just completed a difficult course of chemotherapy. We met in her backyard where she told me of her battle with cancer and its impact on her philosophy of life. We discussed how she would like to be photographed and what precautions she needed us to take as her immune system had been devastated by the treatments. Her portrait expresses her courage, her hope, and the remarkable intelligence with which she faced the last chapter of life.
