I met Karen as a new Parks & Recreation Commissioner. Our first conversation was about a newly released documentary by Wim Wenders about the German choregrapher Pina Bausch. I knew straight away that I had found a friend in the Arts. While working closely together to get a Public Arts Ordinance passed, I came to appreciate her measured and thoughtful approach to the challenges at hand. Unlike her daughter Claire, Karen was cautious in front of the camera lens. In time we took this portrait which captures her keen intellect and the tenacious resolve which underlies her commitment to serve our community.
